Success for West Waterford Athletes in County Schools Cross Country Championships

It was a great day for cross country running as over 300 young athletes from second level schools all across Waterford competed across eight races in the Waterford Schools cross Country Championships held lately in the Friary. West Waterford athletes who competed mainly for the Friary were well represented among the individual and team medal winners.

Sophie Beresford and Siún Cunningham were on the Friary minor girls team that finished 3rd. Luisne de Paor was on the winning junior team from St Augustine’s.

Fia de Paor was second across the line in the Inter girls race and led the St Augustine’s team that included West Waterford’s Sarah O’Riordan and Lauren Cliffe to first team prize. There were good individual wins for Noah Commins in the Inter boys and Grainne Moore in the senior girls both representing St. Augustine’s on the day. In other local interest the Ardscoil took the senior girls team prize and CBS captured the gold in the inter boys race.

Our thanks to St Augustine’s for the use of their facilities and to the officials and parents from West Waterford AC who helped to run the event
