Successful Outing to Kinsale
On Sunday last we travelled for the first time ever to compete at the open cross-country promoted by Riverstick A.C. in Kinsale. It provided a very exciting and successful start to the cross-country season with an individual win for Robbie Mulligan and five of our six teams placed in the team competitions. In all 31 athletes made the trip to what was a very well run event.

Double for under 12 Teams
There was success for both our under 12 boys and girls teams in their events. The teams were made up of both under 11 and under 12 athletes. Chloe Fennell finished 5th in the girls race to claim an individual medal and lead her team of Niamh Leamy 8th, Lorna Cummins 10th, Kate Mc Grath 11th, Darina Shanley 19th, Laura Cusack 22nd and Rachel Wyley 26th to the team title. In the boys race Michael Power in 4th led the team with great backup from Eoin O’Brien 9th, Aidan Mc Kenna 11th, Oran Leamy 13th, Eoin Ryan 19th and Niall Blackwell 24th

Silver for under 14 Teams
Two more of our teams were in the thick of the action in the under 14 races Cliona Ryan ran strongly to finish 8th and was followed closely by Sara Wyley 10th and Gemma Wyley 12 to finish in second place behind Bandon.  In the boys race Sean Curran had a grat finish to take third place and lead his team of Tholm Reddy 9th, Shane O’Riordan 13th, and Richard Casey 15th to second position behind a very strong Togher team.

Bronze for under 10 Boys
Our boys under 10 were also among the medal winners when they finished third in their team race. Jerome Power, who also collected an individual medal by finishing second, was first home for West Waterford.  He was followed by Aidan O’Brien 8th , Diarmuid Harty 22nd , Jack Mc Grath 24th,and Cian O’Riordan 32nd. Four under 9 girls competed in the under 10 race and showed they were well able for the step up in distance. Kelly Mulhearne finished 17th just ahead of Claudia Quarry in 18th , Ciara Mc Kenna was 24th and Orla Queally 31st  and the team finished 4th overall.

Fine Run by Robbie Mulligan
Lucy O’ Brien got a individual medal when she finished 4th in the under 16 girls race and a successful day ended in grat style when Robbie Mulligan led from start to finish to win the under 16 boys event. Well done to all who travelled and we look forward to seeing you all in action again in Kilmacow next Sunday.

West Waterford Schools Cross Country
Plans are well under way for the west Waterford primary and secondary schools cross country which will be held in St Augustines College on Fri September 25th @ 6pm. All schools should have received notification of the event at this stage. There will be races for 3rd, 4th,5th,6th,1st yr, 2nd yr and 3rd yrs.  There will  be individual and team prizes awarded in each age group. The programme will be completed in an hour. This year we are delighted to welcome back John White Chartered Accountant as our main sponsor for this event.
