Five County Titles for Stephen Mc Mahon
Stephen Mc Mahon showed he is an athlete to watch out for in future years as he won five different events at this weekends county championships. Stephen won the 100m., 80m Hurdles, Discus, Javelin and relay and was also second in the high jump.  With his all round ability Stephen should do very well at multi events.

West Waterford Athletes dominate walks and Middle Distance events
Kate Veale had a very convincing win in the under 16 girls walk dominating the event from start to finish. Aoife Kiely in second place and Kayleigh Norris in 3rd followed her home. Kate Curran claimed her first county title with a win in the girls under 15 walk. In the under 13 1100m Cliona Ryan, the winner of the javelin, was third in the girls event while Sean Curran was second in the boys event. Earlier in the day Sean was second in the sprint and third in the hurdles.  Erwann Le Gal led from the outset to take gold in the under 14 boys 1500m, but Robbie Mulligan had to fight all the way to the line to claim the gold medal in the under 15 boys 1500m. Declan Power won the junior mens 1500m and Lughaidh O’Mahoney was second in the under 17 race.

Weather Fails to Dampen Spirits at the Primary School Sports
With the threat of rain hanging over us the Primary school heats for small schools were started bang on time with the first of over one hundred heats off at 6.30 sharp. There was keen competition in all the events as the young athletes vied for places in the western finals. All the sprint heats were over and we were just starting the last of the relays when the downpour finally arrived but thankfully it didn’t last too long and we were able to complete the programme by 8.30. This week it is the turn of the big schools to take centre stage and again we appeal to everyone to come early so you can be parked and in the field for the first events. Line up for the sprints will begin at 6.15 sharp. Hopefully the weather will oblige this week and we might be able to convince ourselves that summer is here at last.

The juvenile committee would like to convey their condolences to Rebecca Maher and her family on the recent death of her grandfather.
