Successful Start to Cross Country Season
Kilmacow was the setting for a very successful opening to the cross-country season. The results of the hard work put in by those making the trip to Paris was very evident as there was huge improvements in many of their performance. Our under 9 girls got us off to a great start when both of them claimed individual medals by finishing in the top ten.

Eric Keating took to the cross-country track for the first time and finished 15th in the under 9 boys race. In the boys under 10 Oisin O’Mahoney was always up in the leading bunch and finished strongly in 4th place. Cliona Ryan moved up an age group to under 12 and showed she was well able for the pace and distance finishing 16th while Dominique O’Mahoney gave a great sprint to the end when finishing 24th. Tholm Reddy was another who moved up an age and showed his class when making it into the top six, while in the same race Richard casey and Eoin Dwyer finished 22nd and 23rd after a great dash for the line.
In the under 14 races both Kate Veale and David Early took the individual bronze in their races showing a big improvement on last years placings. Kate Hickey got the better of Caragh Mullanney when they finished 17th and 18th while Cian Ryan finished 12th in the boy’s event.

The highlight of the day was the under 16 girls performance, as they took gold in the team race. Edel Roche led them home n 3rd with close behind Clodagh Gallagher in 4th Clare Collins 5th and Rebecca Maher 6th. The boys also finished 3rd, 4th and 5th in their race but as they had no fourth finished they missed out on the team prize. Daniel Mc Carthy led the way in 3rd with Brian Hallissey close on his heels in 4th and Joe Conway just one place behind in 4th. The day finishd on a high note with Elma Nugent winning the Junior Womens event and JennyHurley second in the same event. Mark Shalloe was our final competitor of the day and he figured prominently on the winning senior mens team.

Table Quiz on Wednesday 10th
The final fund raising event for our upcoming trip to Paris will be a table quiz in Merrys on Wednesday 10th at 9pm. We hope we will have a big turn out on the night for this very sociable occasion.

County Championships next Sunday
On Sunday next at the Friary the club will host the first session of the county championships starting at 1pm. There will be individual and team events under 10,12, 14, 16, & 18. It is important that all our athletes turn out on the day so we will have full teams in all the age groups. Best of luck to Elma Nugent who will compete in the British and Irish Mountain running Championships next weekend in Wales.
