International Selection for West Waterford Athletes
Patrick Palmer and Zoe Scanlon have been selected to represent Ireland at the Celtic International, which will take place in Belfast next weekend. Patrick competes in the under 18 Pole Vault while Zoe will contest the under 16 Discus. All in West Waterford wish them the best of luck in this event. The following weekend Thomas Houlihan will travel to Sheffield with the Irish under 17 team to compete at the A.A.A. Championships.
Another All Ireland Title for Zoe Scanlon
In Tullamore last Saturday Zoe Scanlon added the javelin title to the Discus she had won earlier in the month. She caused somewhat of a surprise when beating the favourite Eilish Sheehan for the title. To win she had to pull out all the stops and added three metres to her personal best throwing over 35mts.
Silver for Joe Conway
Joe Conway showed he is making steady progress in the race walking event by taking the silver medal at last weekend All Ireland Championships. This should look well beside the bronze medal he won in the Pole Vault. All that’s missing now to complete the set is a gold, which will have to wait until next year.
Bronze for Ciara Scanlan
Ciara Scanlan qualified for this championship by finishing third in Munster last June. On Sunday last she showed she had improved considerably on that performance improving her personal best score in every round and finishing in third place with a throw of 26m29
New personal Best for Mark Shalloe
The boys under 18 1500m was a very competitive race. The field was tightly bunched for the first three laps and only when the race opened up could Mark get out. He made a decisive sprint on the back straight but the leaders were already too far ahead but he finished strongly to dip under 4.10 for the first time.
Success at Araglin Sports

Long Season Coming to an End
This will be our last week in training. We finish on Friday August 4th. On Saturday 5th our under 9 to 12 athletes will compete in the Munster Championships in Waterford while on Monday we have a number of athletes traveling to Tullamore for the B Championships.
