Success for Local Schools at Kit Kat Munster Schools Cross Country

Impressive Win by David McCarthy

Last Saturday the Friary hosted the Munster Kit Kat Schools cross-country championships and once again the local schools had much to celebrate.  David McCarthy showed he has recovered from his recent injury problems and was an impressive winner of the senior boys race he also led his team mates Diarmuid O’Foghlu Rory Moloney and Ferdia O’hAodha to the team title. Earlier in the day his younger sister Lorraine ran strongly to claim a silver medal in the Intermediate girls race.

Good Run by Daniel Mc McCarthy

Young Daniel  McCarthy really upped his game for the intermediate boys and rose to the challenge of the much longer distance and older competition with a seventh place finish that also qualifies him for the All Ireland Championships.

Ard Scoil Team finish Second in Senior Race

In the senior girls race Elma Nugent continues to improve and her excellent fifth place finish helped the Ard Scoil to the silver medals.  She was well supported by Shona Curran, Niamh O’Riordan and Jenny Hurley.

David Early and Kate Veale best of Younger Athletes

Many of the younger athletes from the Ard Scoil, Christian Brothers and Friary fell victim to the flu and had not recovered enough to make it to the start line.  Best was David Early who was seventh in the Minor Boys and Kate Veale made it into the top twenty in a competitive Minor girls race.

Mountain Running Next Wednesday

The Ard Scoil and Christian Brothers will travel to Mount Clara in Co. Cork to compete at the Munster Schools Mountain Running Championships.  Many of West Waterford athletes will represent their schools in this event and it will be a tough test of their stamina.  Best of luck to all competing.
