Another Win for Kate Veale

The Dublin Walking Grand Prix was held in the Phoenix Park last Sunday. This event is very popular with walkers from all over the British Isles. This year it was given an added international dimension by the presence of many continental athletes seeking qualifying times for the world championships. Our own star walker Jamie Costin has already qualified and is out of the country training for the world championships so West Waterford’s sole representative at this event was Kate Veale who competed in the girls under 14 event. This too had an international flavour with the presence of walkers from the Isle of Man. Undaunted by the opposition Kate walked to victory in a time of 11m 11secs, which was 12 secs faster than her winning time of the previous week. Well-done Kate.

Club Championships

The second round of the club championship was held last Friday night. It was long jump for girls and ball throw and shot for boys. This event is being keenly contested across all the ages and the points board on display aroused much interest. One of the best performances last week was that of Chloe Lake who jumped over 4mts in the girls under 14 long jump. Next Friday it is long jump for boys of all ages and ball throw for girls under 9 and 11, with shot putt for girls under 13, 15, and over 15. Tony’s board with all the points score will be on display before the event starts at
