HUGE NUMBERS PARTICIPATE AT THE PAUL BRUNNOCK MEMORIAL RUN.
2.000 EURO PRESENTED TO WATERFORD HOSPICE MOVEMENT.
Hundreds turned out last Saturday on the Waterford Greenway to realise the long-time wish of one of our esteemed members who passed to his eternal reward some months ago when the club hosted the Paul Brunnock memorial run. Paul had a great desire and wish to hold an ultra-run on the Waterford Greenway and asked on numerous occasions about the possibility of having one. This was just one of those things put on the long finger and never came to fruition, well I’m sure he was smiling last Saturday on what was a very emotional day for all his family who were present and all his club mates and friends in West Waterford AC and Marathon Club Ireland when we organised the Paul Brunnock memorial run,an event which sold out completely a week before the run date where participate had 5 distances to choose from covering 5k to the ultra 50k and the popularity of Paul in the running community was evident as hundreds came along to help us all realise Pauls long time wish of having such an event. It has to be said from the outset that we were blessed with the weather as a short time before the off of the ultra it was teaming down rain and it cleared nicely just as we got under way, Paul’s contribution to the day I would say. We would like to thank everyone who participated and of course all behind the scenes who made it possible especially those in MCI Marathon Club Ireland who were our partners in the venture to Vincent and Catherine Guthrie and Derek Mackessy and all their team who made the event possible from the off, and for all there invaluable help pre-race and to Lucy of Myrun results chip timing on the day a sincere thanks. We were delighted to have members of Pauls family with us on the day including his daughter Moylan and her partner Barry, Moylan was our honouree event starter for the ultra and marathon and then joined in by running the ultra with Barry and Pauls brother Johnny, now how proud would Paul have been of this. Our thanks also to Elaine and Sue and Daithí who got the various other run distances underway also. A nice sum of 2.000 euro was presented to the Waterford Hospice movement from the day’s proceedings. To all who looked after turning points, water stations and all those who helped at the finish line your help was invaluable. Special mention to Conor Norris and John McGrath who were invaluable with their help with the course management. Many thanks to two other sports bodies in the area Dungarvan Rugby club and Ballinroad soccer club for the use of there grounds for parking on the day. To the Railway Café management and staff many thank for all your help and to Waterford city and county Council and Greenway trail’s officer Johnny Brunnock many thanks for your assistance, special thanks to Munster Signs and print who sponsored the posters and vouchers for the event, and to all who helped specially our own club members who never fail to row in when called upon all helping to make this a very memorable Memorial run we thank you all sincerely.

COUNTY MASTERS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONHSIP.
ELAINE LANGLEY TAKES IND GOLD AND LEADS TEAM TO GOLD.
AIDAN CONNELL TAKES IND BRONZE AND TEAM BRONZE.
The county cross country championships for Masters were held last Sunday along with the County B’s for juveniles, Tramore race course was the venue and numbers were quite good in Juvenile but adults numbers were on the small side.In the Ladies race there were two teams West Waterford AC and Tramore AC, Elaine Langley West Waterford AC lead from the gun to take a deserving gold masters title to add to her novice title which she won in early October, a great cross country season for Elaine and she was followed home by her team mate also having a good CC season Angela Tobin taking the silver, cross country is as important a team effort as anything and here Madeline Hearne was or next scoring Lady in 4th and these three Ladies took the team title for West Waterford AC with Tramore taking silver. In the Men’s it was great to see that we had 3 teams go to post with Waterford AC taking the team gold lead home by Noel Murphy, West Waterford finished on 16 points the same as Tramore for the silver team medals but Tramore had a higher scoring first man home in 2nd place so this gave them the team silver with West Waterford having to settle for the bronze, Our club team was led home by we saw Aidan Connell having a super run-in his first West Waterford AC club team outing, Aidan was an early leader of the race over the 4 laps but the chasing pack always kept him in their sights, and over the final lap he was clawed back by the three chasers which included Noel Murphy Waterford ac who went on to take gold and Enda Bagnell Tramore AC taking silver with Mark McKenna Waterford AC just holding off Aidan for the bronze medal, also competing on the club team were Raivis Zakis 5th and Philip Harty 7th and we had a 2nd club team who were outside the medals and this team consisted of Michael Dunford, Yev Chizhikov and Ray Hahesy,
Well done to all the West Waterford masters on a strong showing in Tramore.
JOHN TREACY DUNGARVAN 10 ENTRIES OPEN ON DECEMBER 1ST FOR AI MEMBERS.
As and from December 1st entries will open to Athletics Ireland club members for the 32nd Annual John Treacy Dungarvan 10 which will be held on Sunday February 4th 2024, with a start time of 11 am. Entries for all others, none club members will open on December 8th.West Waterford Athletic Club have announced details of the event which has established itself as a must run race on the Irish road running calendar with participants from all four corners of the country and beyond participating. The race has grown year on year and is a pre entry race which will close when 3,750 entries is reached. The John Treacy Dungarvan 10 brings together the ideal race combination of fun runners, joggers, club athletes and top class internationals who compete over a fast flat 10 mile course around the historic town of Dungarvan, we look forward to welcoming you to our town on February 4th 2024. MURRAYS PHARMACY TO SPONSOR 28th ANNUAL BRICKEY 4 IN AID OF CARRIGLEA AND GLENBEG NATIONAL SCHOOLS ON SUNDAY WEEK.
Bushy Park GAA grounds is the venue for the 28th annual Brickey Run. Again this year we are delighted to announce that once again as they have now done now for many years Murray’s Pharmacy Dungarvan are to continue on with their sponsorship of the race we sincerely thank Elizabeth and all at Murrays Pharmacy for this kind gesture. The proceeds from this year’s race will be donated to Carriglea and Glenbeg national schools in the area. The race distance will be over a very flat fast 5k loop around the Brickey valley starting and finishing at Bushy Park GAA grounds. The race will get under way at 11 am with registration online only numbers can be collected at the club house from 10.15 onwards . The Martin Curran Cup will be awarded to the first man on the day and the Jim Lyons memorial shield will be awarded to the first lady. The prize-giving will take place in the club house immediately after the race and refreshments will also be provided for all the runners. Online entries open now.

LEAGUE NUMBER COLLECTION TONIGHT WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 8TH FOR THE 28th ANNUAL “FORDE’S DAYBREAK” WINTER LEAGUE 6.30 pm.
On tonight Wednesday November 8th sees the league number collection take place for the 2023/24 28th Annual Forde’s Daybreak winter league which will be run over 11 weeks and organised by West Waterford athletic club. The event for those few who are not familiar with it caters for all types of runners and especially for those that have never ran before, we provide plenty of advice and encouragement so please don’t feel that you might be the only person trying it for the first time as guaranteed there will be many coming along again this year for the very first time just like you. There are 2 distances to choose from and they are commonly known as the long route 5.4 miles and the short route 2.3.miles. Come along on the night and register for whichever route you wish to do. We will be available to answer any questions you may have tonight or any other night. There is no official run on registration night, however many people do run the course but there will be no stewards on the course until round 1 which is the official start of the league. If you haven’t registered online to date you can come along and register on registration night, you can also do so the following week or any other night but we do urge as many as possible to come along and register in order to speed up proceedings for the following week. Your cooperation with this matter is much appreciated.
SAFETY ON THE ROADS.
The first rule of safety when running on the road is that all runners must wear their reflective bib at all times. Bibs can be bought at any sports shop or hardware shop. Under no circumstances will any runner be allowed to take part in the winter league without a reflective bib. If you have now yet purchased one please do so before the start of the league. Watches and I Pods or any music ear pieces are strictly against club rules and will not be allowed. Runners must obey the stewards at all times. They are there for our own safety and are not to be ignored. Please be wary of traffic at all times but especially when crossing the road or overtaking somebody.
