MASON MORGAGES AND FINANCIAL SERVICES COLLIGAN LEAGUE.

VERY SUCCESSFUL LEAGUE CONCLUDES.

The fifth and final night in Colligan of our Mason Mortgages and Financial Services Spring Running League once again saw a great crowd of 80 runners take to the beautiful surround of Colligan wood on what turned out to be an ideal evening for the final round of the league. The 2 lap saw 24 competing while we had 21 on the 3 lap with 35 taking to the hills. As this was the last night of this league the overall prizes were presented after the run. Our club Chairman Tom Leahy welcomed everyone especially our sponsor Mark Mason of Mason Mortgages and Financial Services, Cappoquin, he thanked all the runners for supporting the league and hoped that they enjoyed coming to Colligan wood for the 5 weeks, especially the newcomers.  He went on to thank all those who helped out with the organisation of the league and of course Coillte for allowing us to use the Colligan venue .League sponsor Mark Mason was on hand to present the prizes and we would once again like to thank Mark for his generous sponsorship.

DAVID NIXON  KING OF THE HILLS 2024.

The main event of this particular league is the 5 miles on the hills circuit with the title of “King of the hills 2024” going to David Nixon , David from Lismore has been a club member for some time now and is a regular in our club races over that time. David ran the league also last year and finished 1st in division 2 on the hills ,so he has moved on a notch this year taking the overall title, he had 4 1st placing’s over the course of the league so was a clear winner with the least amount of points scored, a total of 4 points,so a big congratulations to him. James Coade was our runner-up this year and James a new comer to our league really enjoyed his running over the week’s recording three 2nd placing’s and one 3rd place to give him 9 points and a clear 2nd place on the hills course. Third place this year went to Michael Dunford who held off Yev Chizhikov by just 1 point to take that 3rd place with 21 and 22 the points scores by each. David Moore was 5th on 26 points in division 1.  In division 2 on the hills the title went to Tom Hogan with 32 points and in division 3 our winner was T.J.Van Der Valk on 56 points. And our final division on the  hills for men was won by Colm O’Connell with 73 points. Well done to everyone that took to the hill’s over the past 5 weeks – running the hills will definitely make you stronger and will have you in good shape for the summer races to come.

DIANE BEHAN LEADS THE LADIES OVER THE COLLIGAN HILLS.

Diane Behan the Waterford AC member claimed the title of Queen of the hills 2024 this year and she did it in quite some style with one 2nd placing and three first placing’s over the league period giving her a total of 5 points, we had 3 ladies divisions on the hill course this year,  great running by Diane. 2nd place was a much closer affair with two athletes finishing on 12 points Angela Tobin and Linda Foley, on a county back Linda had a better place 2nd to Angela’s 3rd best placing so Linda takes 2nd with Angela 3rd . Sandra Moore was 4th with 21 points and Brigid Coffey took 5th place in division 1 on 26 points. Turning to division 2 the honours went to Onra Power who finished up on 31 points 4 clear of Una Fennell 35 points and in our 3rd division our winner this year was Linda Bradfield on 54 points. Linda had to go to count back to take the win here as she and Ruth Fennell finished on 54 with Linda again taking the spot on count back with a higher place 12th finish her best to Ruth’s 13th place.Well done to all the Ladies who ran the mighty hills of Colligan this year,it’s no mean feat to complete them hills every week so well done to each and every one of ye, keep up the good work now and we hope to see you all at our race programme over the summer months.

CAROL WALSH  AND MICHEÁL MOYNIHAN WIN THE TWO LAP LEAGUE.

The 2 lap league this year was divided into Men’s and Women’s tables with the overall Ladies winner Carol Walsh  taking the honours, Carol had 2 first placing’s and 2 2nd placing’s to give her a 6 points total just 3 points ahead of our runner up Claire O’Sullivan who finished on 9 points. It was great to see that we had 4 divisions on this course and in division 2 Margaret Cleary on 25 points but she had to battle hard to hold of  Sinead Hehir who finished 2nd just 1 point behind on 26 points. In division 3 Olivia Coughlan was our winner with 45 points and in division 4 victory went to Noelle Nolan who again on 77 points only held of Louise Prendergast by one point as Louise finished on 78 points, all in all some great battles for divisional honours and lots of fun along the way .In the Mens 2 lap event we had a clear winner in Micheál Moynihan with 6 points total, Micheál recorded 2 wins and 2 second placi9ngs throughout the league,2nd place here went to Martin Collender who finished on 13 points and very well done to our sponsor Mark Mason who really got in the spirit of the league this year by taking part himself and he duly finished 3rd in the 2 lap course, well done Mark. Well done to all who ran the two lap league many who were taking up the sport only recently.

As always we are indebted to our steward’s and helpers with the league Jamie who looked after the signage each week Declan,Tom,Gerry,Shirly, Ray and Ann who did the tables etc each week ,it goes without saying without their input there would be no league. Thanks to our sponsor Mark who was on hand each week at the league and also presented the prizes to the various winners. For his on-going support of our club which is greatly appreciated. Once again a special thanks of course to Coillte who give us permission to hold this league and without whose co-operation this league and of course the Colligan Cup would not take place each year.
