Good Turnout for Tony’s League on Wed

Seventy young athletes took to their marks on Wed last for the first team week of Tony’s League sponsored by InterSport Elverys. All were running to improve their own times and to score points for their team.Thirty three athletes improved their times in week three. Cathal Murphy was the fastest boy with 7.22. Eabha Broderick was again the fastest girl and went under 8mins for the first time when she ran 7.53.Suin Cunningham, Colm O’Muiri, Mario Zakis and Tom Enright all went under 8mins for the first time, while Kasey Connors, Jack Barry, Isobel Daly, Conor de Burca, Eile de Paor, Luisne de Paor and Alison Drea all went under 9mins for the first time.In the short lap Andy Zakis was the fastest boy and Ethain Ni Mhurchu the fastest girl. The biggest improvements were made by Eliza Mai Healy(1min) and Sadie Burke (25secs)  over the three weeks. Ayla Hogan and Ciara Kenny were under 4.30  and Conal O’Ruairc, Evan O’Grady, Shay Doherty, and Conor Queally also improved their times.In the team contest Eabha Broderick’s team have taken an early lead on 234 pts, with Tiernan Hogan’s team second with 354pts and Ava Kiely’s team just two points behind in 3rd place. Suin Cunningham’s team is also in the mix with 359 points while only 2points separate the next four teams.It is important that everyone turns out for their as one person missing can make a big difference to the team score. There are three more weeks left in the team competition.

All Ireland Championships in Co Fermanagh

The first day of the All Ireland Championships under 12,14,16,18 and juniors will take place in Necarne Castle, Irvinestown County Fermanagh on Sunday Nov 17th. The following athletes from West Waterford will be travelling to compete in the event.

Under 14 Girls: Saoirse Kinsella, Natalie Barry and Ava Kiely (Waterford Team)

Under 16 Girls: Suin Cunningham (Waterford Team)

Under 16 Boys: Noah Commins (Munster and Waterford Team)

Under 18 Girls: Fia de Paor, Sarah O’Riordan,

Under 18 Boys: Naoise Mac Mhurchadha ( Munster Team)

Junior Women: Grainne Moore, Fia de Paor and Sarah O’Riordan (Waterford Team)  

We wish the best of luck to all our athletes making the long journey north to represent their club county and province in the National Championships.

The juvenile committee extend their deepest sympathies to the family of Matt Faherty especially his wife Noreen and son Noel on the recent passing of Matt. After many long years travelling the length and breadth of Ireland may you have a safe journey home Matt. Rest in Peace.
