Elverys InterSport  Tony’s Winter League

There was great interest as Lola put up the board with the times and team scores for Tony’s League sponsored again this year by Elverys Intersport. There are two elements to the league, individual performances where everyone is trying to beat their own best time and then the points scored for your team. For the second week in a row Rory Donnelly’s team leads the way but there is a very close race for 2nd,3rd and 4th places.

Despite the heavy rain of the last few days we had a fine day on Wed and underfoot conditions were good so a large number of athletes improved on their overall times. Noah Commins still leads the field on 6.29, his first time under 6.30 and Oisin Whelan was again under 7mins with 6.55.  Rory Donnelly led his team by example recording his best time of 7.31 as did Ami Flavin home in 7.32.

One of the biggest improvements was from Olan Deveeraux who had knocked over a minute off his starting time and is now down to 8.05. Mario Zakis also knocked a minute off his time and is now down to 8.08. We will be watching over the next few weeks to see if either of these will go under 8mins.

We have five athletes who have improved every week Sarah O’Riordan, Isobel Daly, Luisne de Paor, Eoghan Kenny and Eile de Paor.

Some other athletes who have made big improvements in their times are Nicole Cullinane, Colm O’Muiri, Charlie Curran, Natalie Barry and Siobhan Harty and Neveah Cairns.

Rex Radley, Leon Phelan and Jess Collins have all moved from the small lap to the big lap.

In the short lap it is tight at the top with Rian Flavin just leading Ger de Buitleir and both are very close to breaking the 4min mark.

Eile de Paor is the fastest girl.

Daniel Curran has knocked half a minute off his best time. Sinead Donnelly went under 5min for the first time and Maisie Kenneally and Ava Burkin are close to breaking it also.  Looking forward to some great running over the next few weeks.
