ENTRIES OPEN FOR 27th ANNUAL DOOCEYS BAR BALLYMACARBRY 5.

 

The 27th annual Doocey’s Bar sponsored Ballymacarbry 5 mile road race which is race 4 of the summer programme will be held on Friday June 28th at 7.30 PM .This race attracts a great crowd and this year again it will be an out and back course along the Nire Road. The entries are online and numbers can be collected at the local Community Hall where showers and changing will also be available. The entry fee is 10 euro online at eventmaster. Entry on the night will be 15 euro. Prizes in the usual categories. Online entry now open at just 10 euro at eventmaster.ie

EUROFINS WATERFORD GREENWAY HALF MARATHON SET FOR AUGUST 31ST

 

 

 

On 31st August  2024 at 9 am West Waterford Athletic Club will host our 6th annual Waterford Greenway Half Marathon.  Once again we are delighted to have local company Eurofins as our title sponsor for this unique event and we thank them for their commitment to this race and to our club. Eurofins Biopharma Product Testing (BPT) based in Dungarvan is a first-class Contract Research Organization (CRO), working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device clients. The Group covers the whole chain of drug development thanks to an international network of laboratories and testing units with global reach, uniform QA systems and high quality services. The race course along the Waterford Greenway and in conjunction with Waterford City and County Council is a 13.1 mile race along the now famous old Waterford/Dungarvan Railway line. This fantastic amenity opened officially in 2017 and has already experienced visitors from all over the country and beyond. Users are amazed by this 46 km spectacular off-road cycling and walking trail along an old railway line between Waterford and Dungarvan. 3rd FOR EVAN IN 5k.

Well done to club member Evan Fitzgerald who finished 3 rd last Friday evening at the annual Moycarkey Coolcroo 5 K road race held in Littleton . Mossey Bracken from the host club was the overall Winner in  15.15 and Evan was close behind in 3rd clocking a time of 15.23. The ladies winner was Ciara O Neill Clonmel  AC in 17.41.Elaine Langley had a good run on the night also crossing the finish line in a time of 19.50 and club race walker John Laste completed the 5k in 26.35 . A field of 180 ran on the night.Well done to all 3 members.

 

DUNMANWAY 10K.

 

328 finishers cross the finish line last Sunday morning at the Dunmanway 10k, overall race winner was Mark Walsh Midleton in a time of 32.59 and the Ladies winner was Catherine Murphy Upton in 40.03 finishing 17th overall. Club member Justin Ryan put in a great performance finishing 5th overall with a time of 36.09 and Clodagh Stapleton recorded time of 48.30 for the distance. Well done to Justin and Clodagh.

 

CATRIONA COMPLETES CHALLENGE 21.

 

The Challenge 21 half marathon run for The Down Syndrome Centre Cork was held last Sunday  morning and the club had one athlete taking part among the 182 finishers when Catriona Crowe completed the event. The race winner was Sean Dinneen Clonakilty in a time of 1.21.52 and the Ladies victor was Lisa Crowley Watergrasshill in 1.32.12. Starting in Haulbowline the run finishes in Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Catriona completed the half in a time of 2.01.46.Welldoen Catriona.

 

BACK TO BACK FOR MICK.

 

Club ultra-runner Mick Concannon completed a back to back marathon over last weekend when on Saturday he ran a very hilly 26.2 miler MCI organised event in Hacketstown Carlow completing the counre in 4.01, it was on then to Kildare for the 11th annual Thoroughbred run which is held through the national stud and this Mick completed in a time of 3.58.Mick will next complete another back to back shortly when he runs the Celtic Warrior in Lilliput near Mullingar. Well done Mick.
